A Taste of our Victory Garden!
The Victory Garden at Hollandview Trail is growing and Community Member Salvatore has been anxiously waiting for the ripening of his fig! Salvatore’s fig tree arrived at Hollandview when he moved in this Spring along with several other plants and trees including a lemon tree and an olive tree! Salvatore and his wife invited Team Members Ben and Laura to join them for a taste of the fig which has been growing slowly over the past couple of months. If we have warmer weather, he says that we may get to see one more fig this season! Other gardening Community Members are also tending to herbs, vegetables and even strawberries. Take a walk through our Victory Garden and see for yourself!
Butterflies & Blooms!
A bus full of Hollandview’s Community Members visited Blue Willow Garden & Landscape Design Centre to experience their Butterflies & Blooms Conservatory! Everyone roamed the beautiful property when we first arrived. Some took a look at different plants and flowers while others visited the Gift Shop and one of our Community Members even took a swing in the playground! Our tour guide Liam later led us through a very educational tour of Blue Willow’s Butterfly Conservatory. It took only a couple of minutes before butterflies soon began to land on several of our Community Members! Everyone had a great afternoon up close and personal with a variety of butterflies. Community Members who were not able to join us on this trip can look forward to another scheduled visit to Butterflies & Blooms in July!
Happy Anniversary Hollandview Trail!

Hollandview Trail's Spring High Tea!
Community Members and guests enjoyed a lovely afternoon as Hollandview Trail held it very first Spring High Tea. Several of the ladies arrived with a fancy hat, while others brought along their favourite teacup. Everyone sipped tea and enjoyed the delicious treats made by our Culinary Team which included scones, sweets and finger sandwiches of course while Tea Sommelier Ingrid Folkers spoke about the history of Red Rose Tea. We ended the afternoon with wonderful entertainment by pianist Eugene Burda on our Grand Piano. A special thank you to Community Member Audrey for donating over 60 different teacups and saucers to us which we used for this event. Another big thank you to all of our Community Members who let us borrow their teapots for the afternoon!
It's a Mexican Fiesta!
Hollandview Trail held its first Mexican Fiesta last week, just days after Cinco de Mayo! Community Members enjoyed a cocktail reception with homemade Fiesta Sangria made by Laura and Stephanie of the Lifestyle Team while they had their photo taken dressed up as a Mexican dancer and a Mariachi band! Everyone later enjoyed a gourmet Mexican dinner which included delicious appetizers, Salpicon salad, Chorizo al Jerez soup and Pollo con Mole prepared by the Hollandview Trail Culinary Team. Community Members smiled as they “Ole’d” while wearing sombreros as they were entertained by the Mexico Amigo Mariachi! A special Gracias to all of the Team Members who helped make our first Fiesta a big success. Time to break the piñata!
Carry Tiger to Mountain
Nine members of the Newmarket Taoist Tai Chi Society volunteered to put on a demonstration for our Community Members this afternoon in our Activity Room where they explained the history of Taoist Tai Chi and its health benefits. Community Members watched as eight of the volunteers simultaneously moved through the 108 movements of Taoist Tai Chi as another volunteer taught us the movement names! We particularly liked the "Carry tiger to mountain" and the "Go back to ward off monkey" movements. Our Community Members were then invited to participate as instructor Judy led the group through a few of the movements. Those that participated said they really enjoyed the afternoon and commend the volunteers for their ability to remember all 108 movements in the correct order!
A step or two for Heart and Stroke!
Team Members and Community Members joined forces in raising money for The Heart and Stroke Foundation by taking part in a Stair Climb Fundraiser here at Hollandview Trail! Everyone wore red and donated some change as we climbed all the way up to the fifth floor and then all the way back down to the main floor accounting for seventy-two steps up, and seventy-two steps down! Community Members celebrated their accomplishments together as our Perks! Bistro soon filled with a sea of red! Great job everyone!
Celebrating Fat Tuesday!
Community Members celebrated Fat Tuesday with a Pancake breakfast in our Perks! Bistro! Special thanks to our Culinary Team for the making fluffiest pancakes our Community Members have ever tasted! Everyone then joined us in the Jazz Pub for a Mardi Gras themed Happy Hour with beads and masks of course!
An evening with the 7th Aurora Brownies!
We welcomed the 7th Aurora Brownies to Hollandview Trail for an evening of crafts and laughs! Community Members teamed up with a couple of Brownies to work on Valentine’s crafts in the V!VAcraft Kitchen that the Brownies later gave to the Community Members to keep! The Brownies enjoyed some Valentine’s Day treats while they mingled with the Community Members and Mai Tai! All who attended have been raving about how much fun they had with the girls and look forward to another visit soon!
