Universal Grandmothers Program
As you likely know, nothing is more satisfying to seniors than contributing to children and young people.
We recognize how important it is for children to be dressed for winter in order for them to focus on learning and having fun at school!
Every year, there are many elementary school children who come to school in the winter without adequate attire. They may have forgotten their mitts at home, lost their hat on the way to school or left their scarf on the bus. The reasons are endless...
Our volunteer seniors LOVE to knit and we LOVE to knit for children! This year, the residents of Hollandview Trail Retirement Community have commenced a community campaign called Universal Grandmothers. We are aiming to keep children warm in the school yard! This will be accomplished by providing schools and teachers with winter resource kits containing mittens, scarves, hats and socks knitted by our seniors.
This is a community outreach campaign. There is no cost to the school, teachers or students.
Universal Grandmothers was the brainchild of Signature Retirement Living. The company first approached Hollandview Trail Retirement Community about starting the very first chapter of the group. The company’s goal is for the campaign to grow into a property-wide retirement project by starting a chapter at each of their locations.
To date, there are 5 schools participating and the Hollandview Trail Chapter have knitted over 50 resource kits.
Not only will the kits go to helping many kids in need stay warm throughout the winter, it also gives a new purpose and perspective to the grandmothers efforts and knitting know-how.

Everyone had the best time putting their luck to the test at our first Casino event last week. The lobby was a buzz with Blackjack, Roulette, Race Horses, Crown & Anchor and even a putting contest. With your winnings (funny money) tickets were purchased to enter lots of raffles to win wonderful gifts from our prize table. What better way to spend an afternoon in the company of good friends and fun!

Puttin on the Ritz
September ended with a wonderful evening as we put on the Ritz! Community Members enjoyed a special matinee screening of the classic film Cassablanca before joining us in the dining rooms for a gourmet dinner. Everyone then made their way down our red carpet as photographers snapped photos of everyone who were dressed to impress! Amity Trio Premier Chamber Ensemble
The Community Members at Hollandview Trail Retirement Residence enjoyed a special musical performance by The Amity Trio Simcoe's Premier Chamber Ensemble. The Amity Trio is known for its sure ensemble playing and warm, open interpretations. The trio’s members are Michael Adamson (violin), Alyssa Wright(cello) and Olga Lishansky (piano). Each of these musicians is an accomplished instrumentalist and sought-after soloist in their own right, but their chemistry within the Trio, and affinity for the music created, generate performances of delightful musicality, passion and grace. The event took place in our La Tulipe dining room and for further enjoyment champagne punch and fruit & cheese plates were served. It was a wonderful way to spend a Friday afternoon.
Whodunit ?
Community Members took part in a Murder Mystery Dinner led by actors from Musical Mystery where the producer of a big budget blockbuster movie was murdered on set during filming. Some of our Community Members Joan, Bud, George, Cliff, Jean, Florence and Sandra participated as characters sitting throughout the dining room as the plot thickened. Nearing the end of dinner, Community Members were asked to each fill out a ballot with their guess of who murdered the producer. Was it the director? The make-up artist? The camera crew? The leading lady of the movie? After the ballots were looked at, our actors from Musical Mystery congratulated 11 of our Community Members for solving the mystery. It was in fact the leading lady, our Community Member Joan, who murdered the producer!
2nd Annual Spring Fashion Show
Our Community Members enjoyed the latest spring fashion trends as our models strutted their stuff down the catwalk at Hollandveiw Trail. The clothing was modeled by our very own community members who did such a fabulous job you would have thought you were at a high end fashion show in either New York or Paris. The mens and womens clothing was generously provided by Leeds Solutions (Tanjay & Alia) and Marks Work Wearhouse. Our guests enjoyed champagne punch and hors deuves as we launched into the spring season. Some lucky winners went home with exciting raffle gifts and more! Thank you to our volunteer models Vera, Ellen, Jean, Kay, Bud, Carl & Wilf.
