Carry Tiger to Mountain
Nine members of the Newmarket Taoist Tai Chi Society volunteered to put on a demonstration for our Community Members this afternoon in our Activity Room where they explained the history of Taoist Tai Chi and its health benefits. Community Members watched as eight of the volunteers simultaneously moved through the 108 movements of Taoist Tai Chi as another volunteer taught us the movement names! We particularly liked the "Carry tiger to mountain" and the "Go back to ward off monkey" movements. Our Community Members were then invited to participate as instructor Judy led the group through a few of the movements. Those that participated said they really enjoyed the afternoon and commend the volunteers for their ability to remember all 108 movements in the correct order!
A step or two for Heart and Stroke!
Team Members and Community Members joined forces in raising money for The Heart and Stroke Foundation by taking part in a Stair Climb Fundraiser here at Hollandview Trail! Everyone wore red and donated some change as we climbed all the way up to the fifth floor and then all the way back down to the main floor accounting for seventy-two steps up, and seventy-two steps down! Community Members celebrated their accomplishments together as our Perks! Bistro soon filled with a sea of red! Great job everyone!
Celebrating Fat Tuesday!
Community Members celebrated Fat Tuesday with a Pancake breakfast in our Perks! Bistro! Special thanks to our Culinary Team for the making fluffiest pancakes our Community Members have ever tasted! Everyone then joined us in the Jazz Pub for a Mardi Gras themed Happy Hour with beads and masks of course!
An evening with the 7th Aurora Brownies!
We welcomed the 7th Aurora Brownies to Hollandview Trail for an evening of crafts and laughs! Community Members teamed up with a couple of Brownies to work on Valentine’s crafts in the V!VAcraft Kitchen that the Brownies later gave to the Community Members to keep! The Brownies enjoyed some Valentine’s Day treats while they mingled with the Community Members and Mai Tai! All who attended have been raving about how much fun they had with the girls and look forward to another visit soon!
A Wine Tasting in Paris!
Community Members traveled overseas last night to enjoy a wine tasting in Paris, France! Everyone enjoyed some wine as they met new neighbours and enjoyed a glass of wine or two. Several Community Members even visited the Eiffel Tower! Take a look at the beautiful photos taken at the base of the Eiffel Tower!
The Valentine's Gourmet Dinner was Tres Bon!
Hollandview Trail celebrated Valentine’s Day a few days early with a special Valentine’s Gourmet Dinner! Community Members enjoyed a five course French inspired gourmet meal courtesy of our fantastique Culinary Team! The romantic atmosphere was set with a beautiful sunset over our Victory Garden, several people dressed in red and pink and entertainment by strolling guitarist Mark Kersey! Community Members ended the evening with a special screening of Sabrina starring Audrey Hepburn in the V!VAplex. A big merci beaucoup to all Team Members who helped with the special event!
Hollandview Trail Welcomes Bob!
Team Members and Community Members welcomed our newest Community Member, Bob this week with great enthusiasm as they ‘ooooohed’ and ‘aaaaaaaaaaahed’ over his wonderful physique! Bob seems to fit in around here and has already joined us for our Monthly Team Meeting, enjoyed a Gentle Yoga class and even mingled with new friends during Tipsy Tuesday! Bob truly does make a presence wherever he is! He invites all Community Members to get to know him better by working out with him in the V!VAfit Centre! So come down to the V!VAfit Centre every morning to see him! We look forward to seeing more of Bob around Hollandview Trail!
Happy Robbie Burns Day!
Community Members welcomed Robbie Burns enthusiast JT Walters to the V!VAplex in celebration of Robbie Burns Day! JT gave an amazing presentation about the famous Scottish poet to a packed house before everyone enjoyed homemade shortbread and coffee and tea while they mingled among the Pipers music. A big thank you to V!VA Volunteer Laura who decorated the V!VAplex in tartan plaid and to JT Walters for his wonderful presentation!

We are off to a great start with our New Year resolutions here at Hollandview Trail. The V!VAfit Centre has been busier than ever as participation in our V!VAstrength program and V!VAfit classes has increased tremendously! Community Members are fighting for a seat as the Gentle Yoga, Body Control Pilates and V!VAcombo classes are filling up every day! How impressive is that!
The pool has been busy with splashes as new Community Members have joined in the V!VAaqua classes regularly! Keep up the good work everyone! It looks like 2010 will be one very fit year!
January is another busy month here at Hollandview Trail with our Robbie Burns Celebration later this month and even a visit from Elvis! Stay tuned for up and coming events!

Hollandview Trail Team Members recently graduated from another semester at V!VA University! Team Members finished off a day of training with a SURPRISE outing to…..the Toronto Raptor Game! A big thank you to the V!VA Home Office Team and Nancy and Meighan for organizing everything and for doing such a great job of keeping it a surprise!
